Privacy Legal Services
Data protection done right.
Build trust and meet compliance requirements with privacy practices that protect both your business and your users.
Why privacy compliance matters.
Most Canadian businesses need to comply with PIPEDA, and provincial privacy laws can apply on top. If you have customers in the EU or certain U.S. states, laws like GDPR or CCPA may reach you as well. Clearview helps you sort out which rules apply and build privacy practices your team can run and your customers can trust.

Clear consent and breach-reporting practices keep you onside with PIPEDA and provincial regulators.

FAQ
Common questions.
Which privacy laws apply to my business?
It depends on where you operate, where your customers are, and what data you collect. Canadian businesses typically need to comply with PIPEDA and may also face provincial laws, GDPR for European customers, or state laws like CCPA for U.S. customers.
How often should I update my privacy policy?
Review your policy whenever you change data practices, when laws change, or at least annually. Many businesses have policies that don't reflect current practices, which creates both legal and trust issues.
What do I do if my business has a data breach?
Contain the breach, assess what happened, determine notification obligations, notify affected parties if required, and document everything. Having an incident response plan before a breach occurs makes response much more effective.
Do I need consent for all data collection?
Not always. Privacy laws recognize various lawful bases for processing data: consent is one option, but depending on the context, you may be able to rely on legitimate interests, contractual necessity, or other grounds. Clearview helps you identify the right approach.
Do you work with clients outside of Ontario?
Yes. Clearview is an Ontario law firm but works remotely (as permitted) with clients in other provinces and internationally when the matter is within Clearview's practice scope.
